DANA BEN REALTY'S NINE 2020 INTERIOR TRENDS THAT WILL RULE IN 2020!

If there is one way to describe the interior design trends we will see more of in 2020, it’s anything goes! Tired of seeing the same styles over and over again? So is everyone else. Your home should be a reflection of your uniqueness and individuality. When Dana Ben Realty group experts go on listing appointments and do our walk through consultation, we love to see how our clients design their homes to reflect their personalities and create spaces that tell their story. Home decor is always about what moves you, what makes you happy rather than what you see in magazines or on social media. Here is what is making headlines this year when it comes to interior trends:
1. Built-in seating
Let's turn walls into seating areas! For Dana Ben Realty Group, this is one of our favorites especially when it comes to kitchen furniture and dining area. It's such a super-saving technique! Thinking of replacing expensive patio furniture this year? Consider built-in outdoor seating solutions. Our pick for your child's bedroom would be window-side perch with a great view or cozy reading nook. We are seeing fun architectural details like this getting a lot of attention in 2020.
2. How about a little Euro touch at home?
Another architectural detail that’s turning heads is the arch—specifically curved doorways and windows that channel Greece’s cave houses. Simple way to get detailing and smooth and ornate detailing. Not ready to commit to taking down a wall to get it done? There is simpler way: try it with an arched wall mirror.
3. Chunky & Curvy Furniture
We like big and curvy shapes when it comes to furniture form this year! Soft colors and textures with rounded edges to embrace the relaxed feel is the new angle and our experts at Dana Ben Realty just love it.
4. Indoor gardens
Owners and renters of large, small homes and even apartments are finding creative ways to incorporate green into their lives - no matter the size of their space! Popularity of indoor plants and living walls has taken off and encouraged the green thumb to take their plant habit to the next level with indoor gardens. Nature from the comfort of your own home not only brings joy but also good energy. According to Feng Shui, some of the best indoor plants that counteract negative energy are: Aloe Vera, Jasmine and Bamboo.
5. Wallpapered ceilings
Always been a favorite! You might not think this works well, but as Dana Ben Realty Group expert agents view and tour some award winning new construction homes in the Triangle area, wallpapered ceilings are popping up more and more. Our designer find they are another way to contrast and can be incorporated into any room. "It's such a smart and elegant surface for wallpaper because it won’t get damaged, more cost effective and truly a dramatic feature of any room." says Dana Ben, team lead and head home stager at the Dana Ben Realty Group. "We’ve been seeing wallpapered ceilings in dining rooms, powder rooms and expect to see more in bedrooms and living spaces in the coming year.”
6. Black and White Interior
We are going extreme 2020, have you noticed yet? Black and white are the beginning and end of the color spectrum. They couldn’t be a more obvious contrast between colors, but the clash between light and dark is a gift from the interior design gods. There is nothing more chic than a whitewashed stone fireplace when accessorized with black and white pillows, candles, art, and flowers. Black chairs and sofas, white throw pillows, black and white marble around the fireplace– so many ideas, textiles and pattern variations that marry these two colors.
7. Canopy Beds
Fun fact here: In the Middle Ages, strong draperies used in this bed protected from cold drains, leaking roofs, and annoying insects. Not for 2020. This regal, luxurious and comfortable design is a zone of intimacy, creating an atmosphere of serenity, security, privacy and tranquillity, cutting off the external hustle and bustle. Anyone sleeping in this bed would begin to feel like royalty. The canopy is quite an affordable element of the interio but you have to consider the size and frame of the bed to avoid the look becoming bulky. A lot of our 2020 trends are about throwbacks. Your bed becomes an oasis of style and comfort with a light breathable fabric that still turns your ordinary bed into a lavish sleeping experience.
8. Mixed Metals
The days of matching metals used for lighting, cabinet hardware, and plumbing are over. Mixing metals continue to be a strong trend and are now all over the place in 2020. We’re talking silver, gold, tin, and copper. Some of you might be surprised but tin panels are predicted to be a popular backsplash option for kitchens. The mixed metal decor trend is also pretty popular. Silver and brown metals will work well together, like iron and gold or bronze. Be careful not to mix more than three metals in one space, or your decor could become way too busy and overwhelming for one room. And don't forget black - it's one of the trendiest finishes on the market today, and mixes beautifully with most metal colors.
9. Earth Tones
A notable trend toward more natural living is evident. This year as our design experts at Dana Ben Realty Group study the trends, we are seeing design embracing nature and bringing a more earth-inspired feel to homes. 2020 is looking at earth tones. Colors and textures mimic that of wood, metals, and foliage found in nature’s most basic elements that are regularly used in the making of furniture and home accessories. Grey still remains a popular color choice for 2020 but we are seeing a lot more shades of brown and taupe making their way into design and decor. Earth tones like rich forest greens and clay colors create a natural look that creates a zen-like environment made for meditation and unwinding after a long day. A color we have certainly noticed within luxury custom homes is blue! Blue is the new wall and even cabinet color for 2020! It’s one of the most popular and sought after colors as it appeals to a wide range of people and it looks beautiful in virtually every design.
